Falling
Silence
Silence is Never the Answer
Nearly forty years after the experience that shattered my beliefs and changed the course of my life, I finally broke my silence.
Falling Silence is the story of what happened—and the life I tried to build after leaving everything I had been taught to believe.
From Silence
to Understanding.
Some stories take decades to find their voice.
I grew up before the internet, within a tightly controlled world where silence became part of survival. At seventeen, I entered a marriage ceremony that shattered my belief in God and religion and altered nearly every relationship in my life. Ten years after leaving that life—and almost forty years after the experience itself—I finally began telling the story I had carried in silence.
Falling Silence moves between past and present. Each chapter explores what happened alongside the way I was processing those experiences decades later, as I began to understand their impact and find a path toward healing.
The Weight of
Vulnerability.
Breaking the silence meant being willing to be seen.
Sharing this story meant exposing parts of my life I had kept private for decades. Readers have responded in very different ways. Some have told me they couldn't put the book down. Others have said they needed to put it down and step away before continuing.
Beyond telling the story of my childhood and marriage, I wanted to show what came afterward: trying to build a life in a world I had been raised to fear, among people and experiences I didn't yet understand.
One of the most meaningful parts of the book for me is “My Letter to L.” The “L” stands for Love—not a particular person. I wrote those letters for anyone trying to love someone who has experienced trauma, in the hope of offering a glimpse into how patience, communication, and understanding can help bridge what may otherwise be difficult to explain.
