doors of deception returns to the central story of Falling Silence with a narrower focus, removing the present-day reflections that surrounded the original narrative.
The result is a shorter telling that allows the events themselves—and their lasting impact—to remain at the center of the story.
Beyond the

The same story, a different way of telling it.
Writing doors of deception allowed me to separate the central story from much of what was happening in my life while I was writing Falling Silence. By removing those present-day reflections, I could create a more focused reading experience centered on the events themselves and the ways they shaped the woman I would eventually become.
The original chapters remain, while the afterward was removed. Rather than opening with the original epigraph, I created a written visualization of the experience.
I chose to preserve “My Letter to L.” Its message about loving and communicating with someone who has experienced trauma remained an important part of the story I wanted to tell.
Peeling back
the Layers.
Stepping back and stepping forward with new eyes.
I intentionally kept the title doors of deception in lowercase. For me, the typography reflected the emotional weight of deception and the process of unraveling what I had once understood about my life.
Creating this version required me to return to Falling Silence chapter by chapter and make difficult editorial decisions. Again and again, I asked myself: “Does this have value for the reader?” The goal wasn't simply to make the book shorter. It was to determine what belonged when the focus shifted more fully toward the story itself.
During that editing process, I also began seeing another possibility. The visualization characters I had relied upon over the years deserved stories of their own. One of them—the Blue Flame Warrior Woman, a character I had imagined when I needed the strength to take one more step forward—became the seed of a future fiction series.
